The internal VL100 controller has a documented conflict with Intel Alder Lake USB-C retimers: plugging in a PD charging cable can force a DP Alt Mode renegotiation that permanently drops the HDMI signal until physically disconnected. Cable Matters published a manual firmware patching tool to address it.
